My fascination with Frank Lloyd Wright stained glass designs continues with this Bargello needlepoint adaptation of a “thank you” note card I received several years ago. I just couldn’t resist designing a Bargello pattern from it.
The colors on the card are gorgeous yellow-greens, browns, golds, cream and black…colors reminiscent of the earth and nature with a Native American feel to the design. The center of the design looks like an arrow moving from earth (green) to sky (yellow-gold).
Using an assortment of silk threads like Splendor, Silk n’ Colors and Waterlilies, I was able to create just the effect I was looking for—an expression of Bargello needlepoint creativity from deep within my soul. Stitched on 18-mesh needlepoint canvas, the entire design from concept to completed stitching took about two weeks.
Adapting a Bargello needlepoint project from a note card or other inspiration is relatively easy to do…the more geometric the inspiration, the better. This Frank Lloyd Wright stained glass was a perfect beginning project because of the rectangles, squares and angles that caused me to think of flame and Florentine embroidery stitch techniques.

Unfortunately, there’s no pattern for this piece. I stitched it freehand by looking at a note card that had been made from the design. It was a gift for a friend who loves Frank Lloyd Wright designs. I would be happy to help you design your own. Just let me know. Althea
Do you sell patterns for the above Frank Lloyd Wright design? It is beautiful and right up my alley. We are visiting in Chicago and am going into the Architect Store which was closed when we went by last evening. I would love to do this in needlepoint/bargello. Even my husband commented that this is “my thing”. Please let me know. Thank you so much. Marion Vollmershausen
