There are seven needlepoint stitches that are considered to be Bargello filler stitches.
These stitches can be used by themselves to cover a whole piece; but are more effective when used to fill in specific sections of a Bargello needlepoint pattern.
They offer many possibilities for background work, and when used in combination, create unique Bargello designs.
Four of the seven stitches are familiar, and are not usually identified with Bargello needlepoint: Brick, Hungarian, Hungarian Ground, and Parisian; but there are three more that may be a surprise to many stitchers: Gobelin Droit, Old Florentine, and Zigzag.
Each Bargello Filler Stitch will be discussed featured on this site. You may wish to stitch a sample to include in your Bargello Needlepoint Stitch Notebook —especially if you’re unfamiliar with them.
