The Great Lady of Bargello, Janet Perry, will be opening up a whole new world of creativity by teaching Bargello needlepoint to visitors at this year’s Maker Faire at the San Mateo County Fairgrounds near the SF Airport – Saturday and Sunday, May 30-31, 2009.
Janet will display over 50 unique Bargello items (now we know what she’s been doing these last several months). She’ll be showing beautiful hand stitched items made from leftover threads from other projects including knitting yarns, threads from thrift stores, eBay and clearances. Maker Faire is the world’s largest DIY (do-it-yourself) festival. This two-day, family-friendly event gives visitors a chance to make, create, learn, invent, craft, recycle, think, play and be inspired by celebrating arts, crafts, engineering, food, music, science and technology.
This year’s theme is “Remake America”, inspired by President Obama’s call to “begin again the work of remaking America”. It will celebrate “the risk takers, the doers, and the makers of things.” The fourth annual Maker Faire will showcase individual creativity and grassroots innovation in the largest festival devoted to DIY culture and technology in the country.
A time-lapse camera has been installed on top of the main exhibit hall to capture memorable photos and video beginning with set up and ending with take down. Visit the site often to see what’s going on. Who knows, there may be a picture of Janet as she teaches Bargello needlepoint! What a lovely memento that would be.
