In keeping with the spirit of “Everything Bargello”, I decided to take a break from Henry VIII and finish a hand-painted Lee Needle Arts canvas that I started stitching in Bargello needlepoint in 2002.
The canvas was purchased in Connecticut from Next Station Needlepoint, one of my shops-of-the-week. It seemed fitting to complete it this month (August) because of its summer theme.
This “Seashore Gal” carries an umbrella for shade from the sun’s glare, while she soaks her feet in the wet sand and stares out to sea…um…a very peaceful and calm scene indeed.
The canvas design area is 10 inches wide by 21 inches long on 18-mesh needlepoint canvas. It is painted in bright Caribbean colors of blues, bold oranges, deep browns, coral and bright white.
The Upper Half
I stitched the top half of the canvas background with pearl cotton in a 4-1 and 6-1 step Bargello line design. The umbrella was worked in a small Bargello curvature pattern with Fyre Werks and Silk Ribbon floss.
The hat was stitched with Kreinik metallic braid, and I couched human braided hair for the area under the hat. All of the skin was stitched in a deep brown Splendor thread.
Stay Tuned…
Over the next few weeks I will complete the bottom half of this canvas and get it ready for framing. I’ve fallen in love all over again with the design and can’t wait to see the finished product!
