My plan is to stitch each one using Bargello needlepoint designs; and since I hate repeating the same design more than once, each one will be unique both in color and stitch arrangement. So, I’m introducing Bargello Stash Treasures, a series of posts about each needlepoint project I complete. The first treasure is actually two items.

Bargello Needlepoint Mirror Case

The neat thing about this project is that the mirror case is self-finishing and all you have to do is make a small Bargello needlepoint insert for the front of the case and voila! A great gift for someone you love or to keep for yourself! The mirror case is by Lee’s Needle Art, Inc, a wholesale manufacturer of hand-painted needlepoint canvases and leather accessories that only require stitch inserts.

I have two mirror cases among my Bargello stash treasures, so I used 18-mesh canvas and assorted silk threads. Wool threads would have been too thick and because the design area is small, 14-mesh would not have allowed you to establish a solid Bargello pattern. To stitch your own Bargello needlepoint mirror case, you will need two sets of 6-inch stretcher bars, a 6-inch square of 18-mesh canvas, assorted silk or cotton threads in your chosen color scheme, and a paper template made by tracing the opening on the front of the mirror case.

Don’t forget to center the design. It took me about three hours to stitch each insert; so I spent a rainy weekend enjoying tea and scones while stitching my first two Bargello Stash Treasures. To purchase the Lee’s Needle Art Mirror Case, check your local needlepoint shop or online.

I came across your wallet post the other day and am going to stitch a Bargello wallet using your design and suggestions. I like the idea of turning inexpensive everyday functional items into Bargello Stash Treasures.
