The best way to kick off the Bargello Needlepoint 365 Day Challenge is to stitch a flame pattern–the most basic of all Bargello needlepoint patterns.
Taken from Bargello: An Explosion In Color by Margaret Boyles (p. 41), this 4-2 step flame design is a regular repetition of a row of peaks ten stitches high.
It just cried out for a glorious monochromatic color scheme; so I used three shades of turquoise silk from dark to light.
The 3″ square canvas kept the stitching interesting and was the perfect size to showcase the main design, which reminded me of an all-time favorite “ripple” crochet stitch that I’ve used in making afghans.
Can’t wait until tomorrow!

Thank You Mary for your support and motivational words. Althea
Hello Elmsley, Thanks for your compliments and input. Why not join me in the 2010 Challenge. It’s never too late. You can choose to stitch one piece a month, week, or however you wish. Just think of the wonderful projects you will have completed by the end of the year! Althea
Hi!
I’m very glad that Jane from Chilly Hollow mentioned your site today – I’m very glad to find it, as a Bargello Fan. You can see some of my work on Stitchin Fingers. Although I’m concentrating on Elizabethan embroidery at the moment, I have a Florentine project on my to-do list
Your Boot Camp looks to be full of wonderful information!
Your challenge is nice way to honor your dad. So far so good, keep up the good work.
