Day 11: Shaded Bargello Boxes

This pattern is actually a variation of the 4-2 step Bargello diamond design that is filled with stitches in such a way as to create an effect that looks more complicated than it really is when stitching.

The best way to stitch it is to work the diamond-shaped outline over the entire canvas first, and then fill in all of one color before beginning to work the next color.

Boy, does this increase the anticipation…all the boxes are finished at the same time, and only when you place the last stitch in the last box do you see the true three-dimensional effect!

Color schemes for this Bargello needlepoint pattern tend to be analogous. The colors I selected brought back fond memories. Two shades each of rich dark red and warm honey reminded me of my father’s hugs and kisses!

Hi Althea. I’m new to the entire world of bargello – it was my New Year’s resolution to learn, so I’m loving to watch your journey. I was also inspired enough by this design to try it yesterday, so thanks for the inspiration! Jem.

  2. You’re welcome, Jem. It’s always good to hear from stitchers who are introduced to Bargello for the first time. Keep stitching with me. Try any of the designs that catch your eye. You don’t have to do all 365 (smile); just keep stitching Bargello! Althea
