Day 12: Purple Bargello Diamonds Challenge Design

Here we are back to the 4-1 step again. When this 2010 Bargello Challenge is over, I will have mastered the 4-1 step pattern, as it is frequently used to give an almost seamless effect to Bargello needlepoint.

Purple Bargello Diamonds, found on p. 54 of Bargello: An Explosion In Color by Margaret Boyles , has a basic and simple design; but surprisingly not all of the stitches are 4-1 steps. There are 1-1, 2-1, 3-1, 6-1, 8-1, and 10-1 in the center filling stitches as well.

With the use of color and texture, this Bargello design offers a world of possibilities; and since purple is my youngest granddaughter’s favorite color, the completed square will most likely provoke a comment like, ” Oh
Mimi…it’s purple; is it for me?”
