When this 2010 Bargello Challenge is over, I will have mastered the 4-1 step pattern, as it is frequently used to give an almost seamless effect to Bargello needlepoint.

bargello, bargello needlepoint patterns, bargello needlepoint, 2010 Bargello Challenge, bargello patterns, bargello embroidery, needlepoint books, Bargello: An Explosion In Color, margaret boylesPurple Bargello Diamonds, found on p. 54 of Bargello: An Explosion In Color by Margaret Boyles , has a basic and simple design; but surprisingly not all of the stitches are 4-1 steps. There are 1-1, 2-1, 3-1, 6-1, 8-1, and 10-1 in the center filling stitches as well.

With the use of color and texture, this Bargello design offers a world of possibilities; and since purple is my 3-yr old granddaughter’s favorite color, this completed square will most likely provoke a comment like, ” Oh Mimi…it’s purple; is it for me?”
