The Victoria and Albert Museum in London currently exhibits an 11th century Arabic tile from which this Bargello border design, found on page 90 in Designs for Bargello by Nikki Scheuer, was adapted.
It consists of hexagons, diamonds and background diamonds that are worked in various steps from 2-1 to 6-1. The color photo is on page 73.
You can do a lot with this Bargello border pattern. It would make a great belt if stitched in monochromatic colors , or it can be used to frame a needlepoint picture. Of course items like luggage straps or purse handles could be worked as well.
Again, I chose Silk n’ Ivory threads to work the design.
