This Bargello needlepoint pattern is not just another diamond design.
What makes it unique are the inverted corners, which form small diamonds.
Found on pp. 122-123 in Designs for Bargello by Nikki Scheuer with color photo on page 65, the Bargello pattern was inspired by an 18th century hand-woven New England coverlet.
The 4-2 step large diamond outline leads to a smaller diamond without breaking the pattern flow. For the 3″ square Bargello Challenge sample, I worked from the small diamond outward to demonstrate the inverted corners.
The entire piece was stitched with Silk n’ Ivory threads.
