Definitely a complex and advanced design, this Bargello needlepoint pattern, found on pp. 124-125 in Designs for Bargello by Nikki Scheuer, has a rich 13th century history.
It was inspired by a Turkish Seljuk tile that decorated a religious school.
According to Scheuer, this Bargello pattern is the most complex design in the book. There are no written instructions or explanations for working the pattern–only the photos on pp. 65 and 143.
This was done intentionally to make the Bargello design challenging and fun for each stitcher.
I worked the entire piece in Silk n’ Ivory threads.
