This Bargello needlepoint design is a great example of how you can find inspiration for creating your own needlepoint patterns from all kinds of sources.
The Bargello pattern, found on pp. 128-129 in Designs for Bargello by Nikki Scheuer, was adapted from a 1930s French enamel cigarette case.
The easy to stitch 4-2 step pattern is totally linear, and covers the canvas quickly using 5 shades of Silk n’ Ivory and Paternayan Persian Wool threads.
