Day 16: Alternating Bargello Diamonds

bargello, bargello needlepoint, bargello patterns, 2010 Bargello ChallengeAn alternating Bargello needlepoint diamond pattern makes the motifs in this design slightly larger than those in Day 13.

There’s a lot going on in this Bargello pattern. Careful attention must be paid to each alternating diamond. Diamonds should be stitched separately because there are distinct differences. One diamond has a 4-1 step, and the other has a variety of 5-1, 2-1, and 2-1 steps.

bargello, bargello needlepoint, bargello patterns, 2010 Bargello ChallengeDeviating a little from the design chart by Margaret Boyles in Bargello: An Explosion In Color by Margaret Boyles (p. 59), instead of using the recommended methods of filling in the center spaces, I used a Diamond Rhodes Stitch in metallic thread to highlight each center. Burgundy and dark taupe Silk and Ivory threads were used to work the Bargello Diamonds.

Actually, now that the design is finished; it looks quite stunning!
