For an interesting change in stitching Bargello needlepoint, today’s Hungarian Point Bargello design has a four-way look and feel that is stitched vertically as well as horizontally.
Found on pp. 54-55 in Florentine Embroidery by Barbara Muller, the Bargello pattern has a 6-1 and 2-1 step that can be confusing if not counted accurately.
To avoid making mistakes, the center border of the medallion “cross” motif and the large border that frames the medallion should be stitched first, and then the rest of the design can be filled in.
I used Madeira Mouline Egyptian Cotton Hand Embroidery floss in the recommended colors to work the design.
