The Hungarian Stitch is one of the seven Bargello Filler Stitches. When used as a stand-alone Bargello pattern, the stitch makes a diamond variation. With a monochromatic color scheme, this Florentine embroidery pattern comes alive.
Considered a design for average skill, this Bargello needlepoint pattern is found on p. 60 of Bargello: An Explosion In Color by Margaret Boyles, and requires a bit more concentration and attention to detail with a bit more complicated arrangement of the stitches.
I used four colors (Silk and Ivory Threads)—three shades of red and one white. You can’t be in a hurry when working this design, or you’ll make a mistake. It took me three hours to complete a 3″ square section of the Bargello pattern.

I was initially very confused, because at certain maginifications, this looks like cross-stitch. And then, all of a sudden, I got it! Lovely work.
Are you working on 14 or on 18 canvas?
