Day 17: Showcasing the Hungarian Bargello Filler Stitch in This Design

bargello, bargello needlepoint, bargello patterns, 2010 Bargello ChallengeThe Hungarian Stitch is one of the seven Bargello Filler Stitches. When used as a stand-alone Bargello pattern, the stitch makes a diamond variation. With a monochromatic color scheme, this Florentine embroidery pattern comes alive.

I used four colors (Silk and Ivory Threads)—three shades of red and one white. You can’t be in a hurry when working this design, or you’ll make a mistake. It took me three hours to complete a 3″ square section of the Bargello pattern.

  1. Hello Kalleris, Thanks for the compliment! The combination of basic stitches and how they unfold is one of the best things I like about Bargello needlepoint! Keep on stitchin’. Althea

  2. Kalieris says:

I was initially very confused, because at certain maginifications, this looks like cross-stitch. And then, all of a sudden, I got it! Lovely work.

  3. Nancy says:

Are you working on 14 or on 18 canvas?

I’m still enjoying this series very much.
