Found on pp. 60-61 in Florentine Embroidery by Barbara Muller, the Bargello pattern is worked from bottom right to top left (left-handers work from bottom left to top right), and uses 10 different colors.
I used an assortment of silks to work the design including Vineyard Silk, Splendor, Silk Mori, J. L. Walsh Silk and Needlepoint Silk.

Once the initial Bargello pattern line is established, it’s easy to stitch the rest of the embroidery across the needlepoint canvas. |
