There are many stitchers who only like to work Bargello Flame Stitch Designs; and if you were to query needlepointers around the world, they would most likely say that the Bargello flame stitch is THE most recognized Florentine embroidery pattern.
One of two Flame Stitch patterns remaining in Florentine Embroidery by Barbara Muller, today’s design is found on pp 86-87, and can be worked in a 4-2 or 6-3 step.
Color schemes are a matter of choice; but this Bargello design looks best when using 6 or more complementary colors. I used Silk n’ Ivory and J.L. Walsh Silk Wool to stitch the design.
