Although this Bargello needlepoint design is called “pastilles”, the outline reminds one of spools of thread.
Found on page 90 in Bargello Magic by Pauline Fischer and Anabel Lasker, it requires careful counting to properly set the pattern so that the center Bargello motifs will be easy to stitch.
The stitch length varies from over 3 threads to over 11 threads with one step up or down; and you can get as creative as you’d like in filling the center motifs.
Thread choices are flexible, and so I used Silk n’ Ivory to stitch the Bargello design.
