The rhythm of this French ribbon Bargello needlepoint design, found on page 95 in Bargello Magic by Pauline Fischer and Anabel Lasker, is 1 over 4 with a step of 2.
The intermediate-skilled Bargello pattern works well for areas of unequal proportion or as a background for regular needlepoint.
I used Kreinik metallic braid for the hot pink accent stitches and gold border; and Silk n’ Ivory to work the rest of the Bargello design.

Human hair was used to stitch the gold lines in the original Bargello design. According to the authors, synthetic or real hair is an excellent substitute for metallic threads because it won’t crack or fray and is stronger than most fibers. |
