Day 201: Pisces Bargello Needlepoint Design

bargello, bargello needlepoint, bargello designs, free bargello patterns, bargello patterns, 2010 Bargello Challenge, bargello stitch, needlepoint books, Bargello Magic, Pauline Fischer, Anabel LaskerA great Bargello pattern for luggage straps, belts, or borders, today’s design can be worked in dynamic or soft color schemes.

Found on page 108 in Bargello Magic by Pauline Fischer and Anabel Lasker, it requires a bit more prep work than a normal Bargello design. The pattern should be drawn on graph paper first before stitching to establish the number of ribbon repeats–especially if it is being used for a pillow or book cover.

As a result, it took almost 5 hours to complete the Bargello design including the prep time.

The choice of thread will depend on the Bargello project. I used J.L. Walsh Silk Wool to stitch the entire design.

bargello, bargello needlepoint, bargello designs, free bargello patterns, bargello patterns, 2010 Bargello Challenge, bargello stitch, needlepoint books, Bargello Magic, Pauline Fischer, Anabel Lasker Stitches are worked vertically and horizontally with varying steps and stitch lengths in this Bargello design. Because the ribbon strips are reversed, background areas become more important.

  1. Hello Sara,

To make your kit, you may need to contact the publishers or Nikki Scheuer herself to get permission to include the pattern along with the stitching supplies. I believe it is still protected by copyright; so you will want to be careful here. Althea

Dear Althea, At some point I may make a kit version of Day 134 (Nikki Sheuer: Designs for Bargello) although I have only seen the piece on your site: I don’t have Nikki’s book. How should the kit be referenced and am I obliged to do this? The kit version would be in different yarns and colours and most likely have a border. Thanks, Sara
