This bargello needlepoint pattern found on page 46 in Bargello Stars, Shells, and Borders by Josephine Ruth Paine, forms the apron edge of a chair stitched by the designer.
Worked on 14-mesh canvas with 5 rows of Gobelin Droit bargello filler stitch on either side, it ends up being approximately 6 inches deep.
The neat thing about this bargello design is that the blue rows can be padded for a very interesting effect. This is done by laying several strands of thread (in the same color) under the stitches as you work.
I used Madeira Mouline Egyptian Cotton Floss, Needlepoint Silk, Kreinik Silk Moiri, DMC Cotton Embroidery Floss, and Needle Necessities Overdyed Floss to work the design.

This bargello needlepoint design is quite large and could be used as a border for a needlepoint rug. |

Hello Christine, it is a 4-1 step. Althea
That is gorgeous. What is the step in that pattern? You usually mention that in your descriptions! Thx.
Hello Sara,
It was a lot of fun, and I’m thinking of using it as a border for a bargello needlepoint rug I’m currently designing. Althea
This sample looks intriguing as a design potential and I look forward to using it someday. Sara
