It’s amazing the number of Bargello designs that are found in historical needlepoint pieces.
This Bargello pattern is often called the “fish scale” or the “eye of the peacock” (pp.72-73 in Bargello: An Explosion In Color by Margaret Boyles).
Although a colorful pattern with turquoise, yellow, salmon and brown, it can be somewhat tricky to stitch. The base of the “peacock” requires several adjustments in stitch length on each side to make the curved motif fit the pattern.
In any event, it was fun to stitch. Some ambitious souls could work a Bargello needlepoint dining room chair cover in glorious colors…maybe a set of dining room chair seats (ha, ha)!
