Small diamonds are the centerpieces of this dainty Bargello design found on pp. 130-121 in Bargello: An Explosion In Color by Margaret Boyles.
To establish the Bargello pattern, work all four centered diamonds first, followed by the background stitches. The designer suggests that you complete all the background stitches first to get all the four-way counting done (the hard part). Then all you have to do is fill in the diamonds (the easy part).
I stitched a few diamonds; and then the background stitches surrounding them. This made it easier for me to see how the four-way design would turn out. Four shades of gold Silk n’ Ivory were used, from dark to a pale yellow for the diamonds, and a warm dark red for the background color.
