What a very interesting use of color! Stitching this design may appear confusing at first; but as you follow the pattern on pp. 69-70 in Traditional Bargello by Dorothy Phelan, you will find that the motifs have a logical color sequence.
The Intersecting Ogee Bargello Design has a basic 4-2 step that is perfect for stitching a pillow cushion or chair seat cover. It is rated as skill level 3 for the advanced stitcher because of the intricate color placement.
You can use a variety of threads; but I stitched the sample with six shades of Madeira Mouline Egyptian Cotton Embroidery Floss. After the design had been completed, I realized that I should have used lighter blue for the fill for some of the motifs. The colors were too closely graded to the outline and as a result did not provide enough of a contrast as I would have liked.
