This Bargello design reminds me of flickering flames.
Depending on the color scheme used, it can even look like a field of wild flowers.
Found on pp. 71-72 in Traditional Bargello by Dorothy Phelan, it is the perfect design for a chair seat cover–especially when stitched in muted or soft earth tones.
I used Silk n’ Ivory threads by Brown Paper Packages in an assortment of colors. You can find it in most needlepoint stores either online or local.
To stitch the design, work the trellis or outline first, and then fill in the flames from the bottom upwards.
Interesting Tidbit about Dorothy Phelan

In Traditional Bargello, Dorothy Phelan advises never to hang either a framed piece of needlework on a newly plastered or damp wall, as condensation will cause mold to appear on the work. |
