The title of this Bargello design is the most accurate description of its degree of difficulty.
The Florentine pattern, found on pp. 82-83 in Traditional Bargello by Dorothy Phelan, is much more complicated to work than it appears because of the very close grading of the monochromatic colors, and the irregular direction of its 4-1 step.
Originally designed for a pillow insert, the advanced Bargello pattern requires extra careful attention, and unfortunately is very hard to read.
After a failed third attempt to make a main establishing line according to the chart, I decided to modify the design to meet my needs; yet still in keeping with the spirit of Phelan’s design.
I used all Silk n’ Ivory threads throughout to stitch the design.
