This 4-2 step Bargello Diamond design takes on a different look depending on the number of stitches that are added to the peaks and the number of colors used. If you desire a soft look to the Bargello embroidery, then use three monochromatic colors. For bolder diamonds, four or more brighter and contrasting colors should be selected to get a striking effect.
Taken from pages 50-51 of Bargello: An Explosion In Color by Margaret Boyles, the Diamond Bargello Pattern is supposed to be easy to stitch. Actually I found it to be a bit tricky at first; but once I got the diamonds centered, it progressed quickly.
Initially, I tried to stitch a grid outline of the diamonds with the intent to fill in the remaining stitches. This did not work for me; so I found the center of the canvas and stitched from the center of the first diamond outward. At that point I was able to make the remaining full and partial diamond outlines.
I had picked out three different color schemes for this design; but finally decided on a peach scheme. Peaches are my favorite fruit, and since I live in Georgia, the Peach State (a coincidence), I chose three medium shades of peachy colors to stitch the Bargello Diamond Pattern. All three threads were Silk and Ivory: Cayenene, Rhubarb and Mango (an interesting combination to be sure).

Hello Garnett, I haven’t given it much thought…just trying to work on the goal to stitch 365 designs. However, you’ve given me an idea…hum! Althea
WOW!!!
Are you planning to put all the samples of the stitches together to make something?
