Adapted from a Scandinavian traditional knitting pattern, this 4-2 step Bargello design features one design superimposed on another.
It is found on pp. 18-19 in Designs for Bargello by Nikki Scheuer, with the color photograph on page 68.
Begin in by working the diamond trellis in the center of the needlepoint canvas. Once the complete trellis is stitched, fill in the cross-like motif in diagonally alternating squares; and then work the squares to get the superimposed effect.
I used Silk n’ Ivory threads in two monochromatic shades of blue for the fill, and white to stitch the trellis.
