In one of my quiet moments on the web, looking for free Bargello needlepoint treasures, I came across Pic2Point.com, a FREE needlepoint pattern maker site.
This site is truly a find in a million! It lets you turn your photos or images into high-quality needlepoint patterns.
All you need to do is upload your photo, and adjust the size, color settings and thread count of the pattern, and voila…you have a customized design that’s ready for stitching.
I tested the Pic2Point.com Needlepoint Pattern Maker with one of my own images–a cup of herbal tea. Here are the steps I took:
— Uploaded an image of a cup of herbal tea, which had to be a JPG, PNG, or GIF under 1MB in size). My picture was 69.6 KB.
— Adjusted the colors to get the proper look, changing the thread count to fit 14 mesh canvas, and the canvas size to 10 inches.
— Printed the pattern in PDF format, which can be viewed and printed from most computers.
The result is astounding! The PDF document contains a color picture of my image, a color template that maps to DMC stranded floss, and a legend of symbols that represent the colors. There were also several pages of parts of the stitching chart.
So, I saved it to my computer for future use, at which time I will print everything, and assemble and tape the pages together to work from the total stitching pattern.
Try it for yourself. Pic2Point.com is completely free; however, if you like the results, why not send a donation via PayPal?

This is excellent – thank you!!! Just what I needed.
Sara, sounds like you were having LOADS of fun! Hopefully you spent some wonderful hours there browsing and shopping. Althea
Will try this out in the next few days! I was in England last week and since Sherborne was quite near I went to visit the Tapestry Centre there!! The shop was just what I was expecting but no sign of Dorothy Phelan or her book! Apparently most people prefer to buy from Amazon not surprisingly!
Best wishes,
Sara
