The inaugural project in the “Everything Bargello” category is a hand-painted needlepoint canvas of Henry VIII.
One of England’s most notorious monarchs, Henry VIII is probably most famous for the way his marriage to six different women began and ended.
One of the ways to keep track of them is through this rhyme, “Divorced, beheaded, died…divorced, beheaded, survived” (Antonia Fraser, The Wives of Henry VIII).
“Henry VIII” worked in Bargello stitches will be a lengthy needlepoint project. The canvas measures 25 inches wide and 36″ long, with a hand-painted design area of 16 inches wide and 29 inches long.
I’ve mounted it on 25″ and 36″ stretcher bars, using two packages of Japanese brass thumb tacks (120 total).
I will use mostly cotton, silk and metallic threads to work the Bargello project, and a few embellishments here and there to create a three-dimensional effect.
