In Search of The Ultimate Bargello Needlepoint Stash

needlepoint stash, bargello, needlepointers, bargello needlepoint, bargello needlepoint, bargello stitch, 2010 Bargello Challenge, bargello patterns, bargello embroidery, bargello needlework, needlepoint books, stitchersJust when I think I’ve made the purchase of a lifetime–one that will create the ultimate Bargello needlepoint stash, I find that all I’ve done is taken my stash to a higher level; but not the ultimate!

I’ve concluded that there’s no such thing as the “Ultimate Bargello Needlepoint Stash”. Why? Because, a needlepointer’s stash is never complete, and every stitcher’s stash is customized and personalized to fit stitching preferences and likes.

Bargello Needlepointers love gifts, gadgets and unique items that can be added to thread or canvas stashes. The latest metallic or specialty thread, hand-painted canvas or techniques will cause a flurry of online shopping sprees or visits to local needlepoint shops.

Ask any stitcher and she or he will tell you that there are enough supplies in his or her stash, as well as everyday tools that can be used to enhance stitching effectiveness to last two or more lifetimes!

What’s unique about your Bargello needlepoint stash?

Post a comment or two so that we can collectively “drool” along with you and maybe add just one more item to our own stashes!

  1. Hello Sara,

Thanks for the encouragement! As far as threads go, they don’t come any better than Silk n’ Ivory when you want to use a single strand thread similar to tapestry wool. Most of the other threads have to be stranded–some even requiring up to 4 or 6 strands stitched together on 18-mesh canvas. I hope your shop can get S & I in for you. It truly would be well worth their investment, and you can tell them I said so (smile). Althea

  2. Hello Ann, I truly am blessed with a wonderful stash…and, I just can’t resist new fibers and embellishments! Althea

    Dear Althea,
I too have been outgrowing my ‘stash’ shelf! A friend has just introduced me to Silk n’ Ivory from some left-over threads she had in her stash … I have been using very ordinary DMC tapestry wool up to now and am totally converted! Needless to say it is impossible to get Silk & Ivory here in Ireland and the UK company that supplies all me needlepoint stuff had not heard of it but they kindly agreed to research getting some in! The company is http://www.sewandso.co.uk and they have a large range of yarns and threads. In your opinion what is the next best yarn compared to S & I (or Trio) to use on 18 hole mono canvas in terms of colour shading and use? I have seen Caron mentioned on the list but what is it like to use?
I have recently started to paint my white canvas with thinned acrylic paint before starting to sew which gives a good result because I don’t like to see white canvas showing through and don’t have any ‘antique’ canvas to use at the moment.
I am still enjoying my daily visits to your site and keep finding facinating bits and pieces buried here and there? Well done for this heroic challange!
    Sara

    Althea,

Your stash seems to be quite ultimate to me! You have so many different thread types, canvas, stitching tools etc.
I wish I would have the same :-)

I’m starting – slowly – to build me a silk stash (Caron, Thread Gatherer, Gloriana, …). And then I can play, fondle and imagine what I’m gonna do with all of these goodies :-)

    Have some nice stitching today!
    Ann
