One of the special delights of vacationing on Martha’s Vineyard Island is visiting Henley’s Needlepoint & Fibers, a quaint Victorian style needlepoint store located in the heart of Edgartown. The Victorian shop atmosphere made me think of stitching while enjoying Afternoon Tea. Normally a needlepoint shop is open five or six days a week; but in this tourist town, Henley’s is opened every day and year-round.
The things that make Henley’s unique are the original hand-painted needlepoint designs of Martha’s Vineyard Island attractions such as lighthouses, the ferry, famous Oak Bluffs cottages and a map of the Island. There are belts, ornaments, door stops, pillows and more to needlepoint. The avid stitcher will never run out of items to make to commemorate her visit in needlepoint. I found a lot of wonderful canvases to add to my Bargello stash collection and couldn’t resist the hand-painted Edgartown belt and several lighthouses.
If you haven’t done so already, make sure to add Henley’s Needlepoint Shop to your list of attractions when you visit Martha’s Vineyard Island. Start a stash “war chest” to save up to pay for the one-of-a-kind finds you’ll just have to buy. The shop is located at 44 Main Street, Edgartown, MA 02539 – (508)627-3959.

Thanks, Judy for your interest. I would love to see your work. Please email your photos and a brief story to me and I will post it on the site. Keep on stitchin Bargello Needlepoint. Althea
What a fantastic website – I’m a lover of bargello and have just collected a very comprehensive library of books about this craft. I spent many years sewing (in silk on linen) a number of squares from Kaestner’s four-way book and putting them together to make a curtain. Happy to upload a pic if you’re interested.
