On one of my many visits back home to Virginia, I came across this wonderful needlepoint shop in the Virginia Beach area. The Hook and I has all the charm of colonial American architecture and everything a stitcher desires for needlepoint, crewel, knitting, smocking, rug-hooking and more.
There are pre-worked canvases that only need background stitching, needlepoint kits for children, hand-painted canvases by renowned needlepoint designers, pre-finished accessory items, complete needlepoint kits, and a host of threads, fibers and embellishments.
The last time I visited, along with several hand-painted canvases I purchased some needlepoint finisher—a clear drying water-base sealer for needlework that’s used primarily for small items that will receive a lot of wear and tear from constant handling. I also spent some time browsing through other sections of needlework—especially the ones I don’t know much about like smocking and crewel (I would love to learn crewel some day; but smocking is not my thing).
The Hook and I, located at Wayside Village Shoppes – 4216 Virginia Beach Blvd – Virginia Beach, Virginia 23452, offers classes, private lessons, assembly work and friendly down home Virginia service.
