This Bargello needlepoint elephant hangs proudly in my daughter’s home. Although it was not originally stitched with her in mind; once it was completed, she immediately laid claim to it and well…I had to give it to her since she’s my favorite Bargello needlepoint fan.
Actually, the hand-painted canvas by Liz of Tapestry Tent was stitched during a 90-day job relocation period. Since I was all alone (the family had not moved yet to join me), during the evenings after work and on weekends, I would stitch in my rented apartment to pass the time. No hardship there…I absolutely LOVE to stitch Bargello needlepoint and find it one of the best ways to unwind after a grueling work day.
Throughout the piece there are various Bargello stitch patterns including the basic flame pattern, borders, and combination patterns. Unable to resist embellishments, free-standing tassels were added, and special beads and treasurers were attached as well.
Although the Bargello needlepoint elephant is not in my collection, I do get to visit it when my granddaughter invites me for play dates!

That is beautiful! I think of bargello as a repeating design on blank canvas. What is the difference between decorative stitches and bargello?
