Stitching for Charity
A Bargello Needlepoint.com reader, Julie Fera, sent a photo of The Caron Snowflake Santa that she finished before the holiday season as a charitable donation. Here’s the beautiful photo and what she said about the project and how it was used:
“I worked on the Caron Snowflake Santa for an outreach program that was being done by the Buffalo (NY) Chapter EGA. I had previously printed the Santa pattern from the Caron website. I posted a comment that I would love to send you a photo for you to see.
The Buffalo Chapter EGA was planning to decorate a 24″ wreath with Santas as an auction item for a local charitable organization. So I went through my patterns/charts looking for a Santa that would be appropriate, and the Caron Snowflake Santa met my needs.
Although I loved the Santa as he appeared in the pattern, when you are doing charitable stitching, I try to shop my SABLE (stash accumulated beyond life expectancy). I found a Watercolours called Holiday. In addition, I had a good selection of other threads that would go with the Holiday Watercolours. In the end I used Caron threads: Watercolours, Snow, and Impressions; a #4 Kreinik braid, and some flosses.
I loved doing the turkey work for the hat’s pompom. The pompom really added to his charm, as does the twinkle in his eyes. I spent approximately 15 hours on the stitching and finishing over eight days.”
Thanks, Julie for the photo and description, and thanks to the Buffalo Chapter EGA for its charitable outreach.
