It has been said that quality materials and quality workmanship provide immense pleasure and satisfaction to the stitcher while adding tremendous value to the entire stitching experience.
One of the worse things that can happen is to work a Bargello needlepoint project with poor quality materials and/or workmanship. Here are some pointers you can use to consistently produce quality stitching results.
Quality Materials
Cost is not a reliable criterion when selecting needlepoint canvas and supplies; you really do get what you pay for. Although quality is not cheap, it’s best to stick with Bargello needlepoint suppliers that consistently market quality materials. And even if your local needlepoint shop has these supplies on sale, you should still check for quality through touch and experience. For example, some needlepoint threads and fibers pill and fuzz when they are old. This could negatively impact the finished Bargello project. While it’s great to save money by buying things on sale, you should be cautious and inspect the goods for quality BEFORE you purchase.
Quality Workmanship
Quality stitching is crucial. A Bargello needlepoint project made from high quality materials but poorly stitched and finished is a total waste of time and effort; and there’s no pleasure in using it or giving it away. Things like stitching tension—making sure that stitches are not too tight or uneven are basic rules to follow when working a Bargello needlepoint project. But other stitching techniques can be learned to enhance the quality of the finished work. Consider attending needlepoint classes, seminars and workshops to increase your skill.
