Next to Silk & Ivory, Rainbow Gallery’s Splendor® is my second favorite thread. Because it’s 12-ply silk floss, I like to use it in a variety of Bargello needlepoint projects from 14-mesh canvas to Congress Cloth or fine linen. Each single Splendor® thread comes in three bundles of four strands each. The twist of each individual strand is tighter than most silks, which makes the thread easier to use.

Rating:

When stitching a Bargello needlepoint project with Splendor®, use a laying tool to make the strands lie flat and to release the silk’s natural sheen. To separate, pull the bundles out first and then take out each strand. Follow these guidelines when stitching with Splendor®:
— 6-8 strands on 14 mesh
— 4-6 strands on 18 mesh
— 2 strands on Congress Cloth or fine linen

Pros Cons Does not snag on rough hands; can be substituted for cotton floss; perfect thread for introducing stitchers to silk embroidery. Although considered to be color fast, care should be taken when wet-blocking.
