Thread Spotlight: Silk & Ivory

bargello, bargello needlepoint patterns, bargello needlepoint, 2010 Bargello Challenge, bargello patterns, bargello embroidery, silk_ivorySilk & Ivory is a soft wool-silk blend yarn designed especially for needlepoint-stitch, knitting, and crochet. Distributed by Brown Paper Packages, it is made in Switzerland of 50% silk and 50% Merino wool.

Silk & Ivory may be used on #13, #14, #16, or #18 needlepoint canvas, and is currently available in 196 colors in neutrals, browns, yellows, reds, oranges, purples, blues, greens, and grays & black color families.

TRIO, the strandable version of Silk & Ivory is designed for use on finer canvas. It has three plies, of which one-ply can be used on #18 or #20 canvas; two-ply for #12 or #13 canvas, and three-ply for #10 canvas. TRIO offers more versatility than Silk & Ivory because it can be adapted to a Bargello lover’s style and personal stitching characteristics, and is available in the same colors as Silk & Ivory.

Review

ProsCons
Both threads have a smooth and soft texture with great color selection and coverage when using diagonal stitches.Silk & Ivory's coverage is poor when making vertical, horizontal or Bargello stitches on #13-#14 canvas; may need to be doubled or mixed with strands of TRIO for better coverage.
